How to Dress up Your New Pontoon

Posted on: 10 September 2018

If you've just bought a home that is next to a series of inland lakes, you may have some fantastic frontage and need to take full advantage of this accessibility. One of your first tasks should be to install pontoons so that you can get ready to introduce a boat and other watercraft. However, you do need to make this pontoon as efficient and productive as possible, so what are some of the key "accessories" to consider here?

Out Of the Water

In an ideal world, you should avoid leaving your boat in the water for an extended period of time. This will help to maintain your investment and make it easier to look after on an ongoing basis. Consequently, the first accessory for your new pontoon should be a dry berth facility. This can be fitted to the end of the pontoon and equipped with a heavy-duty roller system, matched with an electric winch. Once in place, you will be able to pull your boat out of the water when you're not using it and carry out any maintenance needed.

Taking Care

You should also make sure that the pontoon itself is "friendly" to your boat. Consider introducing a fender with appropriate padding that's made for this reason.

Let There Be Light

If you like to go out on your boat under the cover of darkness, you need to see exactly where you are going. For safety's sake, you should light up your pontoon with some specially-designed lamp posts that can be configured to turn on and off automatically when you approach.

Productivity

If your lakefront is quite a long way from your actual property, then you may need to introduce a storage facility of some kind on the pontoon itself. This can be a lockable product, and you might use it to store tools and other equipment, to save walking back and forth to your garage.

Smaller Craft

Finally, think about other watercraft and introduce some devices to help you manoeuvre these into and out of the water, or store them when not in use. Some people store their kayak or small motorised craft on the side of the pontoon walk bridge as it won't interfere with the main mooring point or dry berth facility.

Getting to Work

These are only a few of the ways to upgrade your new pontoon. As you may spend quite a long time on the water and need to take advantage of your fabulous location, it only makes sense to focus on this environment.
